Shadowrun patch impressions

I spent the better part of last night with Shadowrun, checking out the state of play now that the first patch has arrived. I’m extremely happy to report that things have improved out of sight - it now plays like it should have the first time around.

Of my first several attempts at getting into the pre-patched Shadowrun, all but a few saw me walking away from the game after waiting over fifteen minutes without finding a match. This time around it took less than fifteen seconds to find my first game, and no more than a few minutes for that game to fill with sixteen players.

Remember the lengthy delays that occurred when new players joined a game already in progress? They’ve been smashed down to no more than a few seconds.

The erratic, stop-start feel of the game is now gone, and it seems there’s much less of an issue with lag - I’m unsure whether this is related to the matchmaking doing a better job now, or enhancements to the netcode, but really - who cares?

If you’ve previously tried, and failed, to get into Shadowrun, then do yourself a favor - pull it off the shelf, dust it off, and jump online again.
