Phishers now after your Xbox Live account

Many Xbox Live users have been receiving e-mails that appear to be from Xbox Support, but are actually from “phishers” - scammers attempting to trick users into divulging personal information by passing themselves off as the support team of a popular website such as MySpace, PayPal, or in this case, Xbox.com.

The e-mails read:

Dear Xbox Live User,
We have made many changes to everyone’s Xbox Live account, and we would like you to check out the new features! You can check out the new features by click on the link below to login and check them out!
Please check out your new features to your Xbox Live account!
https://www.xbox.com/signin/

Clicking the link takes the user to page that looks identical to the Microsoft Passport login page, which records any login information entered into it before forwarding the user to a legitimate Microsoft URL.

The moral of the story? Always be cautious online - and never, ever use a link from an e-mail to try and login to a site.
