Europe to get Xbox Live Video Marketplace…eventually
Xbox Live general manager JJ Richards had the following to say to CVG regarding the upcoming launch of Video Marketplace in Europe.
It’s going to be a country at a time, […] We’re going to have to get it right for each country; the rights, as well as the operation and localisation for each country. That will be our implementation rollout. So rather than hold everybody up we’d rather turn on France when we get enough French content and French rights, we’ll turn on the UK when we get UK, we’ll turn on Italy when we get Italy.
Still no word on an Australian launch - inexcusable, given that RealPlayer launched in Australia just last month, already has tons of content, and it’s all-you-can-eat. If Real can manage the international licensing of video content, and only charge half the price of an Xbox Live Gold account (or free if you’re willing to put up with ads), Microsoft need to pull their finger out.
