Jason Hill over at The Age’s game blog Screen Play has been playing with a Wii Zapper for the last week. His impressions of the Zapper, and bundled game Link’s Crossbow Training have left me entirely unconvinced about dropping the AUD$50 price of entry on the 13th - despite the fact I’ll be picking up Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles that day.

With Nintendo copping a lot of flack for the appearance of their Wii Zapper, you have to wonder what will happen when those “thinking of the children” see Nyko’s Perfect Shot Gun. While the gun adapter does look very cool, there is the niggling problem of pressing the A button which makes the device rather unwieldy. Unfortunately the Perfect Shot will not be out for Christmas but when it does hit early next year it will retail for $12.99.

SEGA today announced their next game for the Wii, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return - a combination of two classic arcade lightgun games. HOTD is a natural fit for the console with the release of the Wii Zapper peripheral - and something that many of us were expecting after Ghost Squad was announced.

Nintendo has announced a release date for the Wii Zapper in Europe. The Zapper will be available on December 7 for an estimated £20 / €30 - which may not sound terribly much for a game and accessory, but works out to over twice the price gamers will be paying in North America.
Bummed Europeans can take solace in the fact they’re not alone - Aussies have to wait another six days, and pay an even greater premium.

Nintendo of Australia has announced the Australian release date and price for the Wii Zapper. The bundle will be available on December 13 for AUD$49.95 - cheap compared to some third-party Wii titles, but highway robbery given the US price of USD$20 (AUD$22.39).

The Wii Zapper is coming on November 19 with an MSRP of USD $19.99 - complete with a pack-in game set in the Zelda universe, Link’s Crossbow Training. That’s right - only Nintendo could release a gun peripheral for their console, call it a Zapper, and include a game that doesn’t involve guns.
I’m more excited for the third-party offerings - Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 will feature a Wii-exclusive Arcade Mode that lets even the most hackish noob pick up and play the game with the Zapper, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is built from the ground up for cooperative Zapper action, and Sega’s Ghost Squad aims to bring the arcade shooter experience home for the first time in donkey’s years.
