Bad news for those waiting it out for Super Smash Bros Brawl in the US, as it has been pushed back a month from its past release date. The game is now slated for a March 9 release due to it needing more tweaks. Here is Nintendo America’s statement regarding the delay:
“The launch date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl has shifted a few weeks to March 9. The development is taking slightly longer than expected. As we’re sure you have seen on the Dojo site (www.SmashBros.com), the game contains an unprecedented number of characters, options and experiences. Be sure to keep an eye on the Dojo site for the latest information.”
Those lucky Japanese are on track for a January 29th release, while the UK still have no idea when they will be getting theirs.

Even with the high prices they have to pay those Brits are going console crazy, with Microsoft now reporting they are having trouble keeping up with demand. Microsoft says that units have to be sent out to stores as soon as the warehouse receives them and that they are even having trouble finding enough vans for the job.
On the Wii side of things, hoards of Brits are crossing the English Channel to raid the French’s plentiful stockpile. Many French stores are employing a “one Wii per customer” policy to keep the madness at bay.

Wii shortages in the UK have led Nintendo to consider pulling the advertising for the console. Nintendo have said that they may “act responsibly” and pull advertising until 2008, when the buying frenzy has calmed down. The current ads are said not to be particularly festive in nature, and hence should be able to be played after the holiday season.

A couple of days ago we did a piece featuring the special edition DS Lites – well news is in that these two systems will not be making their way to the UK or Australia. Sure they can be imported but really Nintendo, this isn’t good enough.

The Wii shortage has spread to other parts of the globe - now the UK is feeling the brunt, with retailers reporting dwindling supplies. Unfortunately for those hoping for a Wii-shaped box under the Christmas tree, it can only get worse. Socks it is then.

Things are looking double-plus ungood for gamers in the UK. David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party is ready to deliver a “mini-manifesto” on how to deal with crime, which includes (you guessed it…) dealing with violent video games.
Cameron told the BBC he believes the current Labour government is taking a one-dimensional approach to crime prevention:
We are never going to deal with crime unless we look at the broader context and say ‘Yes, tough laws, strong action on police, but also action to strengthen our society.’
And that includes, I think, videogames and things like that where we do need to think of the context in which people are growing up.
I fail to see how censorship is anything but one-dimensional. More importantly, if kids cannot perceive the difference between fantasy and reality (or determine that misogynist rap sucks) it is clearly education, not censorship, that governments need to be thinking about.
