CVG were recently at an EA event in Tokyo checking out Burnout Paradise. Rather unexpectedly, they noticed the Sixaxis controller they were using was rumbling - just like back in the day! Upon inspection, nothing else had changed apart from being noticeably heavier, and having a sticker attached on the bottom that rather cryptically read “RUMBLE.”
Now Kaz Hirai has officially announced the DualShock 3 in his keynote at TGS. The DualShock 3 will be released in Japan this November, with North America and Europe getting in on the action some time in early 2008. No pricing details have been announced.

The latest episode of the 1UP Yours podcast features 1UP employee Shane “confirming” the DualShock 3 will debut at TGS. Strange, as we’d thought that Sony would be the only ones who could confirm or deny such a thing.
What amuses me about this whole situation is the mental image I have of the meeting where Sony big wigs had to decide whether DualShock 3 or Sixaxis 2 was the least ridiculous name for their new controller.

Lair was set to be a killer app for the PlayStation 3 - after all, Factor 5 have a great track record for games that involve flight. Now their little patent hiccup with Immersion is settled, Sony have finally distributed prototype rumbling Sixaxis controllers to various first-party developers.
Industry gossip blog Inner Bits tells us we can expect the vibrating controllers to be the default controller within the next two to three months.
And proving that Sony developers really do work hard, an upgraded Sixaxis model with improved motion sensing is already replacing existing controllers on the shelves.

PSP owners frustrated with their fiddly, single nub may soon find Dual Analog relief.

These highly technical blueprints contained in a recently published patent (initially filed by Sony in September 2005) reveal a plan to dock the PSP with a PS2 Dual Shock Controller. The wireless PS3 Sixaxis is another likely candidate for the job. Given the PSP Slim will now be able to be plugged into a TV, we may be looking at a replication of PS2 play.
But being able to actually target your enemies in an FPS may come at a price, such as a
rumbling screen and a not-so-portable portable system.
