October 20th, 2007

An unnamed Toshiba rep has claimed that Microsoft may team up with the company to make a new Xbox 360 which will incorporate not only a new HD DVD drive but a larger hard drive and new entertainment software. The souped up machine, which would potentially add more to Sony’s PS3 woes, may arrive as early as late 2008, so the rumour goes.

An Xbox with a built in HD DVD drive is critical. They and we are working on it. It also has to be more than a gaming machine. Microsoft recognise this. A version of the device may also be sold under the Toshiba brand name.

Custom soundtracks in next PS3 firmware update?

July 21st, 2007

Eighteen bourbon and cokes later…

A single, blurry screenshot supposedly taken from a PS3 demo machine at E3 shows an interesting new option in the menu - Select Music. Few could disagree that Sony’s flagship title MotorStorm would benefit immensely from this one. The only verification so far is from another forum post at PS3forums,

At ALL the E3 machines that I checked I can confirm this was shown on Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, LittleBigPlanet, PSN High Poker, Assassins Creed, L.A.I.R., Singstar. I can pretty much say, that most of the machines had it and weren’t game specific.

The functionality has been available to developers since firmware version 1.6, however the appearance of the menu option while Singstar is running would lead one to believe that custom soundtrack support will be required of developers once the update hits.
