Quake Zero

id software have formed a second development team to begin working on an updated version of Quake 3. Titled Quake Zero, the game will be available to play on PC and Mac in browsers – for free.

The browser game will be supported solely by advertising dollars. In explaining their reasons for undertaking this new venture, id lead programmer and co-founder John Carmack professed his preference for “straightforward and elegant” games like Quake 3 Arena. Take that, Enemy Territory.
