This weekend Steam has knocked 20% off the price of both Bioshock and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The markdown brings both these games from US$50 to a very affordable US$39.95. The offer is valid to Monday 26th, so you had better be snappy if you want to take advantage.

You’ll be glad to know that the first update for ETQW is in the final stages of testing. And yes, full VoIP support will soon be upon us. Aside from this much needed addition, id software have taken heed to the comments/complaints on their community forums and implemented subtle improvements to the game balance: Some weapons have undergone changes to make them fairer, including tweaks in damage fall-off, weapon spread, firing rates, and accuracy.

After playing its beta we were extremely impressed with id’s latest offering to the FPS table. Only a series of braindead decisions, tweaks and maps could really mess up their final release. With a sigh of relief I can honestly say that the QuakeWars: Enemy Territory you will find on the shelves is a very sturdy package, holding together a wealth of diverse classes, vehicles and gadgets in mission-based gameplay executed to perfection.

The demo for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is set for release later today. We just hope you didn’t overdo it with Beta 2, as the demo features the same map, Valley, albeit a final, tweaked version.
Other than the tweaked Valley map, the demo features bots, which you can use online and offline, and a standalone server meaning you can host your own online and LAN games.

id Software have announced that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has gone gold, and is ready for its release in Europe and Australia on September 28, 2007, with North America not too far behind on October 2.
id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead is stoked:
After months of testing, tweaking and balancing Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, I’m pleased to finally be able to say ‘It’s Done!’ […] We’ve had a ton of fun getting the game ready for the masses and I’m looking forward to seeing the massive battle for the top of the online leaderboards begin!
Splash Damage owner and creative director Paul Wedgwood is, funnily enough, also stoked:
The opportunity to develop Enemy Territory QUAKE Wars has been mind-blowingly cool! […] The passion and effort put in by our team at Splash Damage, combined with the amazing direction and mentoring we’ve received from id Software has lead to an award-winning game that we’re incredibly proud of. Our team can’t wait to join fans across the globe to fight in Earth’s battle for survival!
We just hope the world isn’t too caught up in Halo 3 to give Enemy Territory a chance, as our own Justin had a look at the recent Beta 2 and thinks it’s a worthy game - be sure to check out his impressions here.
