Gears of War 2 Title Update 3 gets a release date

March 15th, 2009

Gears of War 2 gets Title Update 3 release date, new maps.

We told you a couple of weeks back about Title Update 3 for Gears of War 2, and we can now tell you that it’s set to drop on March 24. Check out the detailed release notes here.

There’s also a Snowblind Map Pack set for release on March 31 that includes three new maps (Grindyard, Under Hill and Courtyard) and an updated version of a fan favorite from the original Gears, Fuel Depot. No price has been announced, but we’re guessing it’s going to be 800 Microsoft points.

Gears of War 2 Title Update 3 coming with a laundry list of fixes

March 3rd, 2009

Gears of War 2 Title Update/Patch 3 coming.

In my post How Epic broke Gears of War 2 multiplayer, I was quite vocal about the disappointing state of the multiplayer game compared to the polished and undeniably awesome campaign - and many of you agreed.

Thankfully, help is on the way with Title Update 3 (that’s Patch 3 for those of you who don’t speak Microsoft) which is in final testing and should be certified and released within four weeks.

Some interesting fixes and additions are as follows:

- Country preference added

- Players who quit will be replaced by bots

Lair patch to add analog controls?

Lair to receive patch adding analog controls?

An IGN blogger by the name of DugBuzz claims to have played a new version of Lair at GDC 2008, which featured the ability to control the dragon with the analog sticks. I was willing to chalk this one up as inevitable, but the lack of an official confirmation from Factor 5 seems odd - especially given what it would do for sales.

Virtua Fighter 5 gets new patch and FAQ

January 17th, 2008

virtua_fighter_5_patch_faq_costume.jpg
Sega have released a patch for the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5. The major feature of this patch is the ability to don mismatching clothing. In other words, you can wear different items of different player costumes at the same time.

Along with the patch, Sega have also provided a short FAQ for those hopeful fans. The disappointing news from that FAQ is that

  • there are no further plans for game updates after this patch
  • there are no further plans for additional downloadable items
  • and no, there will be no patch to allow online play for the PS3 version

Rock Band patch saga continues: Activision’s response to Harmonix

    December 17th, 2007

Activision responds to Harmonix’s Rock Band controller patch

Activision have hit out at Harmonix’s accusations that they are to blame for blocking the patch that enables Guitar Hero III controllers in Rock Band. Activision claim that they met with Harmonix and MTV Games/Viacom over the use of the controller and that they were “unwilling to discuss an agreement with Activision.” We are willing to bet that it’s not the discussing that Harmonix were adverse to, but the driving of a truckload of money to Activation’s backdoor.

Activision ends their statement with a pretty obvious jab at Rock Band by saying, “Activision’s top priority is to provide consumers with a seamless marriage of best-in-class hardware and software.” I guess Rock Band isn’t the best-in-class then. Read the full statement after the jump.

PS3 Rock Band patch is late (with bonus industry rumor)

    December 8th, 2007

    rock-band-ps3-patch-late.jpg

Apologies to anyone who got their hopes up after reading our recent post regarding a patch for Rock Band on the PS3 adding GHIII Les Paul support. As you’re already no doubt aware, it’s not here yet.

According to Destructoid, a “trusted source” has informed them that the reason for the delay is a concerted effort by Activision to prevent the release of the patch, including legal action. I’ll be watching this one closely, as my imported copy of Rock Band arrives on Monday - so stay tuned for more news as it happens.

    BioShock update out now

    December 5th, 2007

    BioShock update out now

2K have released an update for the smash hit BioShock. The patch contains a few bug fixes and tweaks, but there is also a whole lot of new content. The most notable inclusion is the addition of a new plasmid called Sonic Boom which causes players to giggle like little schoolgirls and slap their arms together – OK, it really means you can blast baddies and objects away with a force, but let’s face it you’ll be doing the first one too. Also included are three new tonics Eve Saver (uses less eve per plasmid), Machine Buster (guess) and Vending Expert (pay less for goods).

They also added the ability to disable Vita-Chambers, just for the hardcore types. Turning off Vita-Chambers and finishing the game on hard will also net you a new achievement called “Brass Balls”.

PC users can download the patch from BioShock’s page below while Xbox 360 players can download it from Live Marketplace or let it happen automatically when they start up the game. Oh, and it’s free.
