June 12th, 2008

Nirvana “Breed” coming to Rock Band.

A BemaniStyle forumite with an incredible attention to detail has noticed a couple of as-yet-unannounced Rock Band tracks appear in an advertisement for the MTV2 track pack currently airing on MTV.

The screenshots look legitimate to me - here are the tracks:

  • Machine Head - “Aesthetics of Hate”
  • Avenged Sevenfold - “Afterlife”
  • Nirvana - “Breed”
  • Nine Inch Nails - “Burn”

MTV considering Rock Band TV show

November 30th, 2007

MTV thinks about Rock Band show

MTV are considering a Rock Band TV show. Kotaku writer Brian Crecente wrote about the stations plans for the Rocky Mountain News:

While Rock Band has MTV’s full support, the television network is being very careful not to overdo it. Specifically, they are holding off on any Rock Band-themed television shows, for now.

“The risk is that a show would be put together that’s not very good, ” DeGooyer said. “We need the right concept, one that looks at how gamers engage with the game. There really isn’t this impetus to put the wrong show up. The game speaks for itself.”

I don’t know what MTV is worried about, it can’t be any worse than the crap they play on their station. If only they displayed this level of trepidation for shows like The Hills.

Harmonix and MTV announce Phase for the iPod

November 7th, 2007

Harmonix releases Phase for the iPod

Harmonics and MTV have just announced the release of their new game for the iPod, Phase. Being the first large developer to use the iPod, Lead Producer Kasson Crooker is naturally very excited about the project; here is what he had to say about it:

“Our goal with Phase was to create a fundamentally accessible, casual music experience for iPod users where we implemented our years of work with rhythmic gameplay elements and present them in ways that any music fan can easily understand and have fun with. We wanted to create something that took users beyond the standard game format, tap into the unique design of the iPod, and give players a fresh, new way to deepen their relationship with their own music — the music they love.”

To play the game you only need an iPod nano with video, iPod classic or fifth generation iPod, an iTunes account and Phase. The game is available on the iTunes store for US$4.95. The game is controlled by clicking or sliding around the scroll wheel in one of the two game modes.

From the video we can see the game is looking amazing considering the iPod isn’t a dedicated gaming device. Check after the jump for a couple more screens.

The Rock Band Special Edition bundle for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will hit stores in North America on November 20, with an SRP of $169.99. The crippled PlayStation 2 version will be ten bucks cheaper, and arrives on December 18.

Rock Band on tour

September 6th, 2007

rock-band-tour-truck.jpg

If you’re packing a desire to play Rock Band that borders on unhealthy, I can understand. The good news (at least, for those of you in the US) is that a huge truck, much like the one in the picture, will be visiting cities across the US giving you the opportunity to do so.

Not only will you get the chance to play the game, but if you can manage to virtually rock out without your meat-body looking totally dorky, you might just catch the eye of MTV casting directors and get flown to New York for “official rocker training” - presumably working on your ability to down three or more mind-altering substances with a Jack Daniels chaser, before your appearance on MTV’s TRL.

Tour dates after the jump.
