Cooper Lawrence, tje psychologist and author who appeared on a debate on Fox News about Mass Effect, has gotten a taste of her own medicine. In the cringeworthy debate, shown above, she lays into the ‘inherent sexism’ of Mass Effect and the terrible effect it will have on the children. Despite admitting to never having played the game herself, and completely ignoring the arguments put forth by Geoff Keighley (of Spike TV), Lawrence managed to score big points with the sensation-hungry Fox people.
But gamers have decided to hit her back where it hurts: On the Amazon reviews page for her latest book. Around 40 people who simple couldnt stand the hypocirisy of someone cricitising something they know nothing about, managed to bring her book’s average rating down to 1 star. Needless to say, you don’t mess with gamers.
This week Yahtzee pokes fun at the horrendously popular RPG Mass Effect. This has got to be one of his funniest efforts yet, complete with dick jokes, nerd predictability and Bruce Campbell.
BioWare’s smash hit RPG, Mass Effect has sold over 1 million units in 3 weeks worldwide. Well, if we want to nitpick, they had a little longer thanks to a broken release date, but it’s still a mighty achievement for a Western RPG.
The first trailer for Borderlands has hit the net. The slightly stilted animation and talking suggests that this video could very well be in-game footage. If this were so, the game would rank a few notches above Mass Effect in terms of visuals. The wait is still a long way off, however - 4th quarter of 2008.
BioShock cleaned up at Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards by taking home by taking the award for the year’s best game. The game beat out other notables such as Mass Effect, The Orange Box, and Halo 3 for the award. BioShock also managed to nab the best Xbox 360 game, and best original score awards.

A few days after banning the game Singaporean officials have decided to allow Mass Effect to make its way on to the shelves. Today Online reported on the change of heart:
After fanning the ire of the video gaming community with the ban of Mass Effect, the authorities have done a U-turn by rating the highly-anticipated futuristic space adventure by Microsoft and allowing its sale in Singapore.
In a statement on Friday, the Media Development Authority (MDA) said the game had been reviewed by the Board of Film Censors (BFC) and is now rated M18. The decision comes ahead of its planned implementation of a classification system for video games.
It’s a big win for Singaporean citizens, with both the unbanning of Mass Effect and the addition of a rating system for games. Who knows, maybe players of the game will start to challenge the archaic homosexuality laws the country holds.
The controversial lesbian sex scene in Mass Effect has led to the game being banned in Singapore. Not really surprising in a country which criminalizes “carnal intercourse against the order of nature.” While those living in Singapore can simply import the game, it would be nice if archaic views didn’t get in the way in the first place. For those wishing to see what the big deal is about (or not about) you can head over to Kotaku and see for yourselves.
For those of you who haven’t got their hands on a copy of Mass Effect yet, you might want to tide your yearnings with this exclusive Game Trailers video. This is probably the best video that has been released yet, so get watching.
Some clueless K-Mart managers have done the gaming public a great service by accidentally putting Mass Effect on the shelves a full 10 days early. We are grateful for the equally stupid gamers who took the time to tell about the slip up and take pictures instead of devoting every waking minute to playing the game.
If you can’t wait for the real release date then you would be well advised to head down to your local K-Mart and see if you can get lucky.
If you are hanging out for every bit of Mass Effect info you can get then you had better head over to Yahoo and check out the newest trailer. We would have loved to have let you see it here, but it’s a Yahoo exclusive - head here to check it out. Not many sleeps left until the November 20 release date!
