The Japanese have gone crazy over the new DS TV tuner. At the mere opportunity to pre-order the tuner, enough people rushed to Nintendo’s site to crash the server. After restarting the server, pre-orders sold out in seconds.
If I worked at Nintendo of Japan, I’d fear for my life if the rumors of a updated DS turn out to be true. I wonder what it would feel like to drown in money?

Those lucky members of Club Nintendo in Japan could pick up their very own Wii SNES controller come April. Nintendo have no plans to release the controller at retail or outside Japan. Time to do what westerners do best, and kick up a stink on the internet.

The land of the rising sun is known for loyalty to home companies, so it comes as a shock that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 last week in Japan. The increase in sales has been attributed to price cuts, new bundles and the release of Ace Combat 6. These factors bought about a 400% increase in sales of 17,673, while the PS3 dropped by 1,000. Even so, it was still a close call between the rivals - though I’m sure Microsoft doesn’t mind one little bit.

Everyone knows that red stuff goes faster, attracts the opposite sex and just looks cool - even Sony, who have just announced a deep red PSP. The PSP-2000 DR is due out in Japan on December 13, with no word if they will make it to the rest of the world. More pictures after the jump.

Mike from our sister site Gizmag just sent me a few happy snaps from the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue booth at the Tokyo Motor Show. If he worked for a gaming blog he’d know that a majority of you only read show coverage for photos of booth girls, but you’ve got to admit - those racing cockpits are pretty cute…
More after the jump.

After selling 22,000 units on the first week of its release, the PS3 title has entered the Japanese software chart at number 7. Top of the chart for the sales week ending October 14 was DS title Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent, another new entry that sold 61,000 copies. And despite its success during its initial week, Halo 3 lingers around the bottom of the top 30, indicative of Microsoft’s struggle to gain a foothold in this region.

One of the winners of Xbox Japan’s summer campaign “Xbox 360 100 Titles Present” has posted pictures of his loot on the internet. One of the pictures features all 93 games (the other 7 are live arcade games) laid out spectacularly on a green futon (presumably to soak up the drool when he shows his friends his stash). Futon pic after the jump.

Sony has announced that it will be launching its 40GB PS3 in Japan on November 11th. In a surprise move Sony has also decided to offer a choice between the usual black console and the favored Sony alternative “Ceramic White”. As mentioned in previous articles the 40GB PS3 will not feature backwards compatibility and is expected to retail in Japan for 39,980 yen (about US$340).
The PS3 is also set to receive its first Japanese price cut (if you exclude the one it received before launch) on October 17th. The 20GB version is to be be marked down to 44,980 yen ($383) and the 60GB to 54,980 yen ($468).
In yet more announcements from Sony the DualShock 3 is to be let loose on November 11th in both white and black. The DualShock 3 will not be bundled with systems and will be available for 5500 yen ($47).
While the 40GB PS3 has been announced practically everywhere but the US, such announcements are expected to happen soon.
