May 30th, 2008

iPong for the iPod Touch/iPhone.

It’s a quick proof-of-concept game, apparently made in less than an hour, but these guys seem really amused…

“Pong! *laughs*”

iPhone to get Playstation emulator

iPhone to get Playstation emulator

It seems that Hudson will face stiff competition for their upcoming iPhone games, as we will soon be able to play old Playstation games on it. The emulator named psx4iphone, is currently in pre-beta stages. ZodTTD, the programmer responsible for the program, says that the software could be out within days if enough people donate. ZodTTD had promised that the program will have full sound and memory card support, and will run 75% of the games released. In lieu of the iPhone’s lack of buttons, psx4iphone will use areas of the touch screen to correspond to the relevant buttons.

Hudson developing games for iPhone and iPod Touch

December 12th, 2007

Hudson develops for iPone and iPod Touch

Bomberman developer, Hudson Entertainment are moving heavily into Apple iPhone and iPod Touch game development. Their games will be web-based, and made available on Hudson’s “Do the Hudson” website. The website opens tomorrow, and iPhone and iPod Touch players will be be able to access it with their Safari web browser.

The games on feature will be ‘Megutte Pon!’ - a Bomberman themed tile-flipping game, ‘Meijin wo Sagase!” - a Where’s Wally-style game, and ‘Dokka Kawatta? (e, mittsumo)’ - a spot the difference game. I’ll be very surprised if many people “Do the Hudson” based on those games - where’s iBomb?

Play LucasArts classics on your iPhone with ScummVM

November 30th, 2007

Old Lucas Arts games make their way to the iPhone

Growing up in a Mac household wasn’t easy when you had a voracious appetite for games - but at least the LucasArts games eased the pain. Arguably there is no real need to ease the pain of an iPhone user, but old LucasArts games are coming to the iPhone anyway - thanks to a very neat port of the ScummVM emulator. Scumm is the engine used to create several classic adventure games such as Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, and Loom - and ScummVM allows flawless playback of these titles on current computers and devices.

Check after the jump for a list of the supported games.

NES emulator for the iPhone

August 7th, 2007

iphone-nes-emulator.jpg

With the first “Hello World” source code released just ten days ago, the fact that a lone programmer with no official development tools has already ported the InfoNES NES emulator to the iPhone is nothing short of incredible.

As you might expect, it’s nowhere near perfection just yet - there’s major slowdown, awkward touch-screen controls, and no sound - but given the author, stepwhite, has achieved this much in such a short period, I wouldn’t expect to wait too long for a speedier update.
