CGI Resident Evil movie trailer

December 18th, 2007

We guess Capcom were sick of Hollywood dicking up their franchise - as they’ve decided to go with what they know best - and commence work on a CGI Resident Evil movie. Hopefully this movie doesn’t prove our suspicions that Milla Jovovich is the best thing about any Resident Evil movie - because she won’t be in this one.

Striking writers turn to game writing

Your favorite shows are already on hiatus or in danger of being canceled, but there is a silver lining to the writers’ strike in Hollywood - a lot of them are writing for video games during the period. Variety recently brought to light the good news in a recent issue:

While the WGA has made no secret that it would like to eventually cover vidgame writing, it hasn’t pushed the issue yet and is allowing members to work on games during the strike.

“It has been an interesting shift,” says one tenpercenter who focuses on vidgames. “The literary agents are now saying, ‘Why don’t we get our clients over there during the strike?’ even though in the past they thought the money wasn’t good enough or the work is too demanding.”

This is definitely promising news, can you imagine a game written by Charlie Kaufman or episodic content written by some of the writers from Seinfeld?

Microsoft thanks Hollywood for Halo 3 success

October 24th, 2007

Microsoft burns Hollywood

During the week of the Halo 3 launch, there were reports that Hollywood held Halo 3 responsible for the abysmal ticket sales they were experiencing. Microsoft thinks they got it wrong - and that the crap coming out of Hollywood is responsible for Halo 3’s success. Microsoft executive Bob Frederickson has at least one finger on the pulse:

“We thought we’d get some good sales, but nothing like this. But with escalating ticket prices and the crappy movies Hollywood has been putting out. People are just hungry for entertainment.”

While I approve of calling out the crap that comes out of Hollywood these days, the next step is stemming the tide of crappy movies being turned into crappy games.
