40GB PlayStation 3 packing 65nm Cell chips

Computerbase.de is reporting that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 features the new 65nm Cell processors, as opposed to the 90nm chips powering the previous models.

As a result, power utilization has dropped from 200 watts to 135 watts, and the consoles will be cooler and quieter than the previously available 20GB and 60GB models - although heat or noise were never major issues with the PlayStation 3 in the first place.

The people at PS3 Vault have done the ultimate test, running the PlayStation 3 in some utterly ridiculous operating conditions - zero degrees in a freezer for 108 hours, and 120 degrees in a sauna for 64 hours. Their verdict? The only way to break a PlayStation 3 is with a sledgehammer.
