Saved replays are possibly the most awesome feature ever to hit console FPS games. First there was those Halo 3 plasmagrenade throws, now we have this rather elaborate death by falling Warthog.
Check out this Halo 3 machinima with references to Mario Bros, Starfox, Smash Bros, Pokemon Snap and probably a few other games I missed - it’s really well put together.
BioShock cleaned up at Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards by taking home by taking the award for the year’s best game. The game beat out other notables such as Mass Effect, The Orange Box, and Halo 3 for the award. BioShock also managed to nab the best Xbox 360 game, and best original score awards.

Xbox 360 Guitar Hero players will receive a humble Thanksgiving gift from the MS gods today, with the Halo theme song being available for download for free. The track, “MJOLNIR Mix” was written and performed by Martin O’ Donnell and Michael Salvatori, creators of the entire Halo musical score and features none other than guitar maestro Steve Vai.
Microsoft today announced a Halo 3 map pack will be released on Xbox Live on December 11th. The pack is called the Heroic Map Pack and features three maps - Standoff, Rat’s Nest, and Foundry. Here is a description of the maps:
* The symmetrical valley of Standoff, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types.
* The vast, labyrinthine passages of the Rat’s Nest bring something completely new to the multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise. Strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, this map is ideal for big team battles.
* Foundry is the ultimate Forge map. Players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, placing stairways, walls, bridges, and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map imaginable.
The price point is a little steep at 800 Microsoft points (around US$10 dollars) the maps will be released free in spring 2008, when the next pack is released.

If you are stuck with a first generation Xbox you might be feeling a tad neglected now. You invested time and money in a system that got zero games the moment the public got a whiff of the 360. Microsoft must be feeling guilty about it, because they have offered a free copy of Halo 3 to Xbox owners who buy a 360 and roll over their Live account. Sure it doesn’t quite cover the psychiatrist bills or the feelings of abandonment, but it’s still pretty snazzy if you were thinking of making the move anyway.
It seems that Hollywood aren’t the only ones who are blaming poor numbers on Halo 3, as Xfire are doing the same. Xfire believes that a 2% decrease in online play time in October compared to last year may be the fault of Halo 3. While 2% might not seem like a lot, given the increase of over 15% in the two traditionally slow months before, it becomes significant.
Things have picked up for November which is so far displaying a 10% increase. This is being largely attributed to Call of Duty 4. For those interested you can see the figures after the jump.
A lovestruck Halo 3 player has used the geek equivalent of a half-time scoreboard proposal to pop the question to his girlfriend, also an avid gamer. Xbox Live user Moviesign used the Halo 3 map editor Forge to create a map with “Marry Me” spelled out in weapons. She agreed - although I can’t help but wonder if she fragged him first.
Bungie has announced a new Infection playlist that will be playable for 27 hours over Halloween. Infection is a custom gametype originally created in Halo 2, that has since been officially added to Halo 3.
Most players start on the Human team, with the remainder starting as Zombies. Odds start off stacked against the Zombies, but each Human they kill joins the Zombie team to take on their ex-teammates.
The playlist includes three variations of the Infection gametype, arrives October 31st at 12:01am and ends at 3:00am on November 1st.
