Ever thought Guitar Hero needed a little more…MacGyver? You’re clearly not the first. One particularly crafty chap has gutted two old PlayStation controllers, nicked out to the back shed, and returned triumphantly with this bad boy - a fully-functioning Guitar Hero controller for his PlayStation 2, built from scratch. Some lucky members of ScoreHero were recently flown out to Neversoft’s offices in Southern California for a session with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. They came back with some exclusive information, notably the four new artists added to the line up - Red Hot Chili Peppers, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden and Dragonforce. I’m a big fan of Guitar Hero - I spent the better part of a week leading up to my recent 24th birthday hammering away furiously at the last six tracks of Guitar Hero 2 on Expert…and my marathon sessions with the game are undoubtedly what lead to the death of my first Xbox 360. While I’m quite the whiz on a plastic guitar, my girlfriend Kate has more palettable talents - and quite a knack for turning whatever gadgets I’m really into leading up to my birthdays into edible format. Two years ago it was a deadly-accurate recreation of a Nord Modular G2 synthesizer, this year…I really should have seen this one coming.

GarageGeeks members Rafael Mizrahi and Tal Chalozin are a rare breed indeed - how many people do you know that would have an idea for a Guitar Hero-playing robot, and then actually go and build the thing? Built in two parts, a brain analyzes the video output of a PlayStation 2 to determine the correct time to play the notes, then sends signals to a body that controls the fingers.
