Bad news for Wii Guitar Hero III players - you are only getting mono sound. Yes, that’s right - mono sound in a music game. Activision is looking into the problem, but doesn’t know when it’ll be fixed.
I’d just like to say that playing Guitar Hero III when you are in possession of a robot hand isn’t fair. That’s exactly what this guy must have had to beat Dragonforce’s Through the Fire and Flames on Expert. It’s amazing feats like this that make you never want to use your own fingers again because they are so unworthy of even being called fingers.
It’s not just Activision who are raking in the dough from the sales of Guitar Hero III - record labels of bands featured in the game are reporting definite spikes in sales in the US, coinciding with the games release date. Roadrunner Records is one such label, who have said that sales of DragonForce’s album “Inhuman Rampage” have increased by 126%, with Slipknot sales seeing a similar spike.
Activision today announced the first three downloadable track packs for Guitar Hero III - the Velvet Revolver, Foo Fighters and Boss Battle Anthems packs. The Velvet Revolver pack includes master recordings of “Messages,” “She Builds Quick Machines” and “Slither.” The Foo Fighters pack includes “The Pretender,” “This Is a Call” and “All My Life.” Both are currently available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 500 Microsoft points, and will be available on the PlayStation Store later this month.
After the South Park episode “Make Love, Not Warcraft” won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, Matt and Trey are set to take another swipe at video games - this time, the hugely popular Guitar Hero.
The episode called “Guitar Queer-o” follows Stan and Kyle, who are hooked on Guitar Hero. Stan’s superior shredding eventually leads to a breakdown in their friendship, as he pursues bigger scores with a better partner. The episode premieres on Wednesday, November 7 at 10pm on Comedy Central, and will no doubt be uploaded to every video hosting site known to man shortly afterward.
A word of warning to all those who are planning on buying a Guitar Hero III bundle - check the box first. It has been brought to our attention that Wal-Mart and Target are offering different versions of the bundle, some with the newer wireless guitars, and some with the older Guitar Hero II wired guitars.
You’ll save $10 on a wired bundle, but you’ll kick yourself once you lay hands on the far superior newer models - trust us, they’re worth waiting/driving long distances for.
With the release of Guitar Hero III this morning has come a full list of the achievements available to 360 owners. While some achievements may be a bit silly (one requires prolonged use of a standard Xbox 360 controller opposed to the guitar peripheral) there’s hundreds of hours worth of replayability here - with the number of achievements increasing to 59. There are also 3 secret “achievements” that are more like consolation prizes for sucking - if you want to ruin it for yourselves you can check them out here.
Activision are really going all out making Guitar Hero III, with the game taking on a boot full of exclusive partners. Equipment manufactures that have signed on are Axe, Gibson, Guitar Centre, Audio-Technica, Crate, Ernie Ball, Krank, Line 6, Mackie and Zildjian.
Media publications are also there to boost your virtual ego, they include Alternative Press, Decibel, Guitar Player, Kerrang and Paste magazines. Dave Anderson, senior director of business development for Activision had this to say about their new partnerships:
“By forging exclusive relationships with key companies in the music and consumer packaged goods industries we are able to bring an even greater depth of realism to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. From venues like Pontiac Garage, to customised guitars from Axe, the game delivers the ultimate rock and roll experience.”
Microsoft has a whole weekend of competitions planned to celebrate the impending release of Guitar Hero III. The most prominent being a 72-hour Play and Win sweepstakes, with a prize given away every hour. Another exciting prospect is the opportunity to shred it out against the games creators and nab the “Meet Your Maker” achievement…will you be able to beat them at their own game?
The prize packs are looking pretty good, one being a limited edition guitar faceplate signed by Slash. Competitions start 12:01 A.M. (ET) on November 2 and run until 11:59 P.M. (ET) on November 4. For a full rundown of the activities, prizes and how to enter click the link below.
