Geometry Wars: Galaxies delayed until 2008

After months of looking forward to the tentative Q4 2007 release date, Sierra has crushed my hopes of playing Geometry Wars: Galaxies this year - pushing the release date back to January 18, 2008. It is unknown whether this is due to the title being unfinished, or Sierra having concerns about Galaxies’ ability to compete with the endless list of Christmas blockbusters.

Check after the jump for a video of Geometry Wars: Galaxies in action on the Wii.

Sierra has launched a new advertising campaign for Geometry Wars: Galaxies based on the LOLCat uber-meme.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this is marketing brilliance, or the final nail in the coffin for LOLCat humor

With the Wii and DS crowd set for a whole new Geometry Wars experience, the hardcore Xbox 360 owners who made the series so popular in the first place might be feeling a little left out.

Well, suck it up people - Bizarre Creations are preparing a new Geometry Wars game, based on Retro Evolved, for inclusion in the upcoming Project Gotham Racing 4 - due for release in October this year.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies TV advertisement

August 8th, 2007

I absolutely love Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. My friends do too - but they much prefer watching me play it than giving it a go themselves - it seems those who weren’t raised by a dual-analog controller have major difficulty surviving for more than 30 seconds.

That’s why Galaxies has me all hot and bothered. The Wiimote control scheme means everyone will give it a go, and two-player mode means that an experienced player can ease the learning curve for a struggling noob.

It’s just unfortunate that this otherwise spot-on TV commercial for the game is marred by a cover version of the surprisingly relevant They Might Be Giants song “Particle Man” - way to simultaneously gain and lose a ton of brownie points!
