Aside from several other eyebrow-raising products, Japanese company CyberGadget have hit on a winner for the DS– an adaptor which lets you play your old Famicon favourites. It plugs easily into your DS’ GBA slot and also has a TV out option, essentially providing you with a portable Famicon. This excellent piece of periphery will be released next month in Japan, but a North American release seems unlikely at this point.

Play Famicom cartridges on your Nintendo DS

Play Famicom carts on your DS

Now that the Famicom support is discontinued you’ll probably want to not play it too much as to preserve its mint condition. Luckily you can still play the games on your DS, thanks to the Cyber Familator cart. Sure you could just emulate the games but it doesn’t hold quite the amount of street cred as walking around with the original cartridge. Although the Famicom and NES have different cart shapes you will be able to buy a converter for all your NES playing needs. No word on the cost, but it most likely won’t make it out of Japan.
