Rock Band gets three new master tracks

September 11th, 2007

Three new tracks have been confirmed to appear on the Rock Band disc, and all three are master recordings:

KISS - Detroit Rock City
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

This announcement brings the confirmed track list to 33 tracks, with just three being covers. This is sure to be a major point of difference in the coming fight with Guitar Hero III - too many of my favorite tracks that made it into Guitar Hero II were covers, some of them absolutely horrible.

Looking for a career in the industry? Don’t pass on that boring physics class just yet.

While you’ve probably seen a number of game design degrees available, Matthew Jeffery, the head of European recruitment for Electronic Arts, has some statistics that might just make you think twice about taking the supposed easy route to a game job.

GC ‘07 - Need for Speed Pro Street Trailer

August 23rd, 2007

In between cigarette breaks at Leipzig, EA were showing off their latest NFS installment. While the trailer showcases some of the fine damage modeling, detailed environment and sweet tyre smoke in the game, we’re told you can expect even more in terms of strategic AI in this one.

GC 07: EA Bored at Leipzig

August 23rd, 2007

I always had the feeling that working for EA would be a bit of a drag, but now I’ve got photographic proof. It appears as if EA have got more nonchalant reps outdoors smoking at any given time than most companies even have in their booths.

GC ‘07 - Rock Band hands on impressions, video

August 22nd, 2007

I finally got my hands on Rock Band today at the Leipzig Games Convention, and must warn you in advance - I am now officially a gushing fanboy. Without even having seen all of what is on offer at GC, this is looking like sure-fire Game of the Show material. More video, and plenty of gushing after the break.

GC ‘07 - FIFA 08 details

August 22nd, 2007

fifa-08.jpg

Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 08 for the PlayStation 3, showed off the game today at the Leipzig Games Convention. This years FIFA has been rewritten from scratch, and will be 20% bigger than any previous FIFA game - featuring 575 teams from 30 leagues, and a whopping 15,000 players.

It seems the issues the Madden team were experiencing with the PS3 are a thing of the past, as FIFA will run at 60 frames per second. And the Ubisoft developer who said the PS3 couldn’t do good AI? Wrong. The AI in FIFA ‘08 runs at 1,000 decisions per second.

EA have added a new “Skill Move” system for moves like step-overs, which includes the signature moves you would expect from famous, elite players. For the less hardcore players, the game will feature EA’s new “Family Play” system, where the entire game can be played with two buttons - one for passing, one for shooting the ball.

Acknowledging that the number one request from soccer game fans is 22-player online matches, FIFA 08 is getting there - 5 vs 5 online play will be released as free downloadable content after the launch. Exactly how long after remains a mystery.

Alex Rigopulos, CEO of Harmonix, announced more details for Rock Band today at the Leipzig Games Convention. Mirroring the strategy used by Sony for the upcoming Singstar PS3, Harmonix have chosen to “exhaustively localize” the music in the game - both the on-disc content and downloadable content.

In an unexpected, yet savvy move, the European release of Rock Band will also see a special PlayStation 2 version released to reach the massive audience of gamers who haven’t yet stepped up to the current generation of consoles.

Be sure to check out the ten new tracks that were also announced today.

SKATE, Medal of Honor Airborne demos on Xbox Live soon

August 15th, 2007

skate-demo.jpg

EA have two demos in store for us in August, and it’s a good thing - you’ll get tired of playing the BioShock demo eventually. While SKATE was supposed to be out this week, technical difficulties surrounding the online video replays sent them back to the drawing board, and they’re “hoping” for something within a week.

The one thing we can count on is the demo for Medal of Honor Airborne being released on August 23.

Medal of Honor Airborne is released in North America on September 7, with SKATE coming two weeks later on September 21.
