DualShock 3 gets priced, dated for Australia, New Zealand

April 16th, 2008

The overdue, over-priced DualShock 3 set to arrive in Australia.

SCE Australia has announced a release date for the DualShock 3. In stores on April 24, the DualShock 3 has been priced at a truly ridiculous AUD$99.95.
New Zealand is left waiting until May 9, and paying NZ$109.95.

Of course, The Gamer Gene strongly recommends importing DualShock 3s from Play-Asia - they’re only US$54.90 (AUD$59.30) so even with express shipping you’re likely to save nearly $30.

January 23rd, 2008

Ceramic White PS3 get FCC approval

Good news for those in the US, the Ceramic White PS3 we reported on in October is making the jump across the Pacific. In fact it’s doubly good news, as the Ceramic White PS3 includes a DualShock 3, meaning that DualShock 3’s are likely to hit shelves at around the same time. So far we don’t have any dates, as all that tipped us off was FCC approval.

DualShock 3 imports will be scarse

November 1st, 2007

DualShock 3 import shortage

US importer National Console Support today warned their customers that obtaining an imported Japanese DualShock 3 will be much harder than they had hoped, pointing the finger at the tactics of an overseas distributor: “In order to obtain 1 Dual Shock 3, we also have to buy 1 PlayStation 3 40GB console.”

Their competitor Play-Asia is having a similarly tough time locating controllers and have taken down the pre-order option on their site.

White 40GB PlayStation 3 and DualShock 3 for Japan

October 10th, 2007

Sony has announced that it will be launching its 40GB PS3 in Japan on November 11th. In a surprise move Sony has also decided to offer a choice between the usual black console and the favored Sony alternative “Ceramic White”. As mentioned in previous articles the 40GB PS3 will not feature backwards compatibility and is expected to retail in Japan for 39,980 yen (about US$340).

The PS3 is also set to receive its first Japanese price cut (if you exclude the one it received before launch) on October 17th. The 20GB version is to be be marked down to 44,980 yen ($383) and the 60GB to 54,980 yen ($468).

In yet more announcements from Sony the DualShock 3 is to be let loose on November 11th in both white and black. The DualShock 3 will not be bundled with systems and will be available for 5500 yen ($47).

While the 40GB PS3 has been announced practically everywhere but the US, such announcements are expected to happen soon.

DualShock 3 announced - rumbling Sixaxis is a reality

September 20th, 2007

rumbling-sixaxis-at-tgs.jpg

CVG were recently at an EA event in Tokyo checking out Burnout Paradise. Rather unexpectedly, they noticed the Sixaxis controller they were using was rumbling - just like back in the day! Upon inspection, nothing else had changed apart from being noticeably heavier, and having a sticker attached on the bottom that rather cryptically read “RUMBLE.”

Now Kaz Hirai has officially announced the DualShock 3 in his keynote at TGS. The DualShock 3 will be released in Japan this November, with North America and Europe getting in on the action some time in early 2008. No pricing details have been announced.
