Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Preview and Screenshots

August 25th, 2007

The Umbrella Chronicles is a tough one to call, even at this stage. On the plus side, the return of zombies, coupled with co-op wii-zapper action is gonna make me all teary for the days of coin op House of the Dead. But the other edge of the rail-shooter sword is that it might dumb down the whole experience.

There’s no word yet on how much of the game we’ll see, but The Gamer Gene will be at the convention with HD video cameras in tow - so you’ll experience it all, not long after we do. Make sure to check back next week for all the Leipzig coverage you can eat.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Review (PC)

July 28th, 2007

Joe1

We’ve seen some shocking PC ports of console games in years past…and with Capcom’s recent Resident Evil 4 port being widely regarded as one of the sloppiest efforts at bridging the gap yet, you could be forgiven for steering clear of Lost Planet so far. On the other hand, our newly hired PC reviewer Justin has just spent some quality time with the game, and is glad to report that this time around, it’s not just a shadow of its former console-compatible self – indeed, it’s a little closer to the game it should have been the first time around, thanks to a honed control scheme. Read on for our full Lost Planet PC review.

Street Fighter HD Remix - The Widescreen Dilemma

July 21st, 2007

ken_hadoken

The latest post on Capcom staffer Brian Dunn’s blog touches on an unfortunate downside regarding the HD-ifying of Street Fighter.

One thing I brought up with him earlier today was the 16:9 versus 4:3 concerns that have been coming up, because I wanted to have a response to share with you. Basically he is well aware that HD means widescreen, and he is well aware that taking a 4:3 game and increasing the width of the playing field would greatly change the dynamics of the game. Rey is currently working on options to address this, including having some sort of artwork or something fill in the side bars left by having the 4:3 play screen in the middle of the widescreen area. So that’s currently under evaluation, and it definitely won’t change the gameplay in a negative way.

Here’s a crazy idea, Capcom - how about giving the user the choice between a wider playing field and side bars?
