Halo 3 gets zombies for Halloween

October 31st, 2007

halo-3-infection.jpg

Bungie has announced a new Infection playlist that will be playable for 27 hours over Halloween. Infection is a custom gametype originally created in Halo 2, that has since been officially added to Halo 3.

Most players start on the Human team, with the remainder starting as Zombies. Odds start off stacked against the Zombies, but each Human they kill joins the Zombie team to take on their ex-teammates.

The playlist includes three variations of the Infection gametype, arrives October 31st at 12:01am and ends at 3:00am on November 1st.

Bungie preparing to ban Halo 3 cheaters

October 23rd, 2007

halo-3-cheaters.jpg

Last Friday, Bungie posted an interesting message on their website:

There are those of you doing things you shouldn’t be in Halo 3. Some of you have gotten a little too famous for your own good. This ain’t a church and there is no redemption or salvation once you have been judged. Apologies are now officially too late to save you.

The storm approaches.

Love, Bungie

Needless to say, if you’ve been cheating in Halo 3 matches on Xbox Live, I’d enjoy what little time you have left with the multiplayer game.

Halo 3 Matchmaking update

October 10th, 2007

halo-3-matchmaking-update.jpg

If there’s one thing I hate about playing Team Slayer Halo 3 on Xbox Live, it’s the Shotty Snipers game type - and the number of times I’ve seen all 8 players veto a round of Shotty Snipers within a few seconds makes me think I’m not the only one.

The caring, sharing bunch at Bungie have recognized the widespread dislike of the game type, and addressed it (among other things) in a recent update. The full list of changes are:

* Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
* In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced.
* Now, when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.
* In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
* In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.

Halo DS not canned, just never planned

October 8th, 2007

halo-ds-rumor.jpg

In response to last weeks news of a canned Halo DS game, Bungie’s Brian Jarrard has set the record straight in an interview with Kotaku:

This rumor has been circulating for a while and as you know we even saw some real life screens and assets this week. Ultimately it’s up to Microsoft to decide if and when they take Halo to a different platform. That particular demo was in fact created and I believe it was an unsolicited pitch a long time ago but nothing ever came of it.

Halo 3: How-To and FAQs

September 21st, 2007

The following links have been provided by Bungie to keep us occupied over what looks to be a long, long weekend.

Halo 3 How-To: Forge Basics
Halo 3 How-To: Forge Object Editing
Halo 3 How-To: Advanced Forge Editing
Halo 3 How-To: Saved Films (with ViDOC)

Forge is a gametype in which all game objects can be inserted into maps at any time, similar to Garry’s Mod for Half Life 2. The Saved Films feature is the in-game demo recording system, where you can edit your machinima creations according to recorded game data (e.g. player position, movement and camera position). Any of the forge modes or demos you create can also be publicly shared on Bungie’s official site.

The shiny, HD remake of Bungie’s classic Marathon: Durandal is now available on Xbox Live Arcade. First person to guess what is currently being downloaded onto my Xbox 360 wins a cookie.

Halo 3 co-operative offline only?

July 19th, 2007

H3_WSJ_CHIEF

EGM is reporting that Xbox Live co-operative play is not a sure thing for Halo 3. Frank O’Conner from Bungie had the following to say.

We’re not dumb, we know that people want it and we’re trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That’s a significant challenge. And there’s lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore. If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won’t.

The possibility of online co-operative being added post-launch with a downloadable update was not ruled out. Better late that never, after all.
