Dragon Quest Wars

This week we got a few interesting choices. Any fan of the Square Enix series Dragon Quest has a quick distraction with Dragon Quest Wars for the DSi.

Personally, I’m the most excited with Arkanoid Plus! which continues the wonderful paddle/ball/brick classic. There’s been a lot of changes since the original and I can’t wait to try the boss battles.

For the Virtual Console, I’m wary suggesting Altered Beast because I know it’s part of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection . But if you don’t have a PS3 or an XBox360 and desperately want to play this game, it’s now available for you. I find the game to be insanely hard, but I try it out whenever I’m bored because it’s part of the collection.

More information and pricing after the jump.

Taito Paddle Controller DS makes Arkanoid authentic

If you are a fan of the old-school brick-bashing game Arkanoid then this paddle controller is a must. The Taito Paddle Controller DS slots into the DS’s GBA slot and comes in multiple colors to match your DS. Play-Asia currently have the Arkanoid/Paddle bundle in stock for US$49.90.

Arkanoid DS coming with optional paddle controller

Currently planned for a Japan release only, I’m sure I’ll pay through the teeth to import this one with the paddle, wait weeks for customs to decide it’s not a bomb, then play it for ten minutes before shelving it…but it’ll be a sweet ten minutes.

There’s also the fact Taito haven’t released an Arkanoid controller since the Vaus Controller for the NES - and that is now one of the most sought-after NES collectors items.

There’s a bunch of screenshots over at Famitsu, but if you aren’t familiar with the game, I can safely say they’re not going to do a whole bunch for you.

Here’s hoping the DS Music Interface guys write something to turn the paddle into another sweet DS-based MIDI controller.
