Computerbase.de is reporting that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 features the new 65nm Cell processors, as opposed to the 90nm chips powering the previous models.
As a result, power utilization has dropped from 200 watts to 135 watts, and the consoles will be cooler and quieter than the previously available 20GB and 60GB models - although heat or noise were never major issues with the PlayStation 3 in the first place.

With Falcon just starting to roll off production lines and onto shelves, by some time in 2008 we should see another motherboard for the Xbox 360. Codenamed “Jasper”, it will feature a 65nm ATI graphics card, further reducing heat, manufacturing costs and RRoD’s. The updated gaming rig will also pack physically smaller memory chips. Given the lowered production costs we should hopefully see another price drop for the console, 3 years after its release.
