Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground review (Xbox 360)
The amount of content is staggering - I’ve played for over 30 hours and I’m barely 40% of the way through the game, which is refreshing given the amount of current-generation AAA titles featuring less than ten hours of gameplay. With this incredible range of new features and content, another strong point of the title becomes apparent - that you’re relatively free to play the game how you want, and ignore whatever parts of it you don’t like.
So to answer the preface to this review - yes, Neversoft certainly have succeeded in keeping the series fresh - although they have me truly stumped as to how they’re going to continue to improve the formula for the inevitable next game in the series.
Fans of Project 8 will absolutely love it, and it’s more than good enough to win back fans of the first few games who have since lost interest in the series - provided they give it a chance. If you’ve never played a Tony Hawk game before, and you’ve read this far, you’re clearly interested enough to go and download the fairly generous demo that is available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. What are you waiting for?
Score: 92/100
