Rock Band PS3 patch adds Guitar Hero III Les Paul support
![]()
Harmonix employee Sean Baptiste has announced a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band in a post on the Rock Band forums.
While the post only mentions “guitar controller compatibility,” Shacknews has confirmed with EA that the patch will add support for the Guitar Hero III Les Paul controller. Expect it to hit very shortly.

I’m so pissed at Activision I could scream - BOYCOTT GH III until they allow the patch to be released. They are only hurting their customers.

How can you be pissed at activision? This situation is no where near their fault. They come out with a revolutionary game and idea, Guitar Hero, where you play notes on a fake guitar. Rock Band or “Harmonix” mimics the idea and makes a way better game in my opinion but fails to make decent instruments. Now they are calling on another company to save their backs (their competitors). If anything everyone should be pissed at Harmonix for not taking the time to bring out decent instruments. I respect activision for not allowing the patch and if anything you should boycott Rock Band for their deceptive business strategy.

GGGG you are a complete moron. It’s not that they are asking for activation to give them guitars they are just trying to make it so that anyone that has a guitar already can use it. This in turn would help activation’s sales buy allowing us to buy their guitars and use them on Rock Band. In turn they would gain money already. The fact that they won’t allow a simple patch to help all PS3 users which btw it works fine for Xbox users is just plain stupid. HMX is just trying to make it a win/win for the consumers and Activation is just being a money-hungry idiot. Cause as I said already they would be getting money off this patch as ppl would buy THEIR guitars!!!

I can’t believe GGGG said that does he even know who developed the original Guitar Hero? Its Harmonix. Activision had no hand in developing the game. They only published it for Harmonix. And their pissed that MTV bought them before they even thought of doing it. Dumb ass thats what I gotta say about them.

what a bunch of douches. im never buying an activision game again. that was the only reason i bought gh3. so i could use it with rockband. now im screwed outta 100 bux.

I am in the same boat as activision….. I bought guitar hero soley to use the extra guitar for rock band and I too am out 100 bucks. If activision were smart, they would get that patch out A.S.A.P. because more people like us would buy their dumb guitar for 100 dollars when they don’t give a shit about the narrowly minded guitar only game. The longer they let the patch wait, the more money they lose. Its only a matter of time before some hackers post a patch anyways.
Stupid Corporate jacka@@’s don’t know the obvious. They would rather lose out on Hundereds of Thousands on a small chance of making Millions…. and I mean very small.

I guess that I am alone. I have been playing Guitar Hero on PS2 since it came out. When I discovered that game companies were going to stop development on PS2 games, or dumb them down, I decided to get a PS3. So I unloaded my PS2 and the entire GH series and bought a PS3 and Rockband. I enjoy the game, but I find the strat to be far less comfortable to play. I beat GH3 on PS2, but didn’t like it enough to buy it on the PS3. However, I would consider buying GH3 to get the Les Paul guitar. But, since it won’t work, that would be dumb.
I’m sure I’m not alone in preferring the Les Paul to the Strat and Activision is certainly losing out on any proceeds from a GH3 purchase from me. I wonder how much money Activision wants from Harmonix/MTV to stop blocking the patch. They should just ask for donations, I’m sure they could raise it if it was about anything more than the principle.
I should probably say that I don’t like GH3 because it is too difficult. I like a game to be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. What happened to the fun songs and the underground garage bands? My favorite song on GH1 was Even Rats by The Slip. I’m hoping that Harmonix redoes the GH1 bonus tracks for DLC on the PSN. None of the following games bonus tracks were as unique and entertaining.

I still can’t believe that Activision won’t allow the patch. I really want to be able to use the GH 3 guitar on rockband - I already owned GH 3 on PS2 and bought it again on PS3 specifically because I thought that the PS3 GH 3 guitar would at least work since the PS2 GH 3 guitars don’t (even with supposed hardware I bought that converts ps2 controllers into ps3 controllers..)
I am sooooo pissed at Activision for causing me a total waste of over $150 bucks because they won’t let rockband use their guitars on the game…..
not only does it make no sense for pissing off customers - but it makes no business sense for Activision who could be selling lots more GH 3 packs since the guitar could work with rockband with the patch. EVERYONE I KNOW HATES THE ROCKBAND GUITAR MORE!!! They would all buy GH 3 JUST FOR THE GUITAR - but no compatiblity and I’ve told them all about this issue so they haven’t wasted their money.
I host game night where we all play rockband on ps3 with crappy rockband guitars once a week so literally about 5 sales of GH 3 don’t happen plus the negative word of mouth I continue to spread. Nice work Activision - each month I wait pisses me off more!
Not only that but my wife won’t get into rockband as much as guitar hero - do you know how tired I’m getting of watching her get pissed off at the rockband guitar when it fails her on simple songs??? Then she gets mad and doesn’t play. She’s probably gonna blow up Activision HQ one day as a result - won’t be my problem then now will it? (j/k about that last part)

I ordered my Nyko Frontman with dual compatibility from Amazon. I’ll post my review once it comes.
May 10th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I played with the Nyko Frontman quite a bit. Though it’s not as comfortable as the Red Octane guitars, it is more comfortable than the EA strat. The only real problem that I have is that the dot on the yellow button can get a little bit uncomfortable/painful. But, on the positive side you don’t have to keep battaries in it. You can just hook it up to usb and play without batteries if you want to. All in all, it’s okay but I still want RedOctane to allow the RB patch.

it should just work and thats it

ACTIVISION IS A FUCKING MONEY HOG!
July 6th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
The fallacy of people claiming that Harmonix “ripped off” Activision’s Guitar Hero. That’s just plain stupid.
Harmonix DEVELOPED Guitar Hero and moved on to make something BETTER called RockBand.
I can’t believe the patch still hasn’t been released to this date. Why do Xbox 360 users get to use GH controllers, but PS3 owners don’t?
July 7th, 2008 at 2:11 am
@Ravonis - Apparently, Microsoft said “there will only be one guitar controller interface for the Xbox 360″ and that was that.
Sony’s openness has typically benefited the consumer (eg. Epic being allowed to support keyboard + mouse and user-generated content in UT3 on the PS3) however in this instance it worked against them.

dude this is ridiculous. release the patch now before kneecaps are broken.
