PlayStation firmware v2.30 is here

The new PlayStation Store.

Sony has released the new firmware v2.30 for the PlayStation 3, which brings the newly-optimized PlayStation Store and DTS-HD Master Audio output to your living room.

Some users are reporting an incredibly slow download, which I can sympathize with given my PS3 took nearly an hour to download the update - however some users in the US report five minute downloads.

While the PlayStation Store is having some issues with thumbnails not appearing, it’s already possible to tell that the new interface is far superior - it performs as beautifully as the PlayStation 3 and PSP interfaces.

To check out which Blu-ray movies have DTS-HD, check this post on the
Blu-ray Forums - but don’t expect any noticeable difference if you’re not running HDMI into a nice receiver and 7.1 sound system.

No matter where you live, or how little you care about a new interface, there’s fresh content on the PlayStation Store for the taking - so go have a look. Downloads of note are the Lair patch that adds analog flight controls, and the Super Stardust HD update adding more single-player content.
