A digital tuner add-on for the PS3 is set to arrive in the first quarter of 2008, coinciding with the launch of Freeview’s terrestrial digital broadcasting service in March 2008. Adding DVR functionality is the next step towards in Sony’s vision of the PlayStation 3 as an all-in-one living room device, according to SCE’s Warwick Light.

We wouldn’t be surprised if video-on-demand functionality is currently in the works, as a decent selection of Sony Pictures titles in 1080P could even the playing field between Xbox Live and the PlayStation Store by a considerable margin. It certainly wouldn’t be hard to better the Xbox Live Video Marketplace outside the US…
