Firmware 2.40 is now live on the PlayStation Network, adding the long-awaited in-game XMB access, a Trophy system, and gives developers everything they need to support custom soundtracks.

Trophies are an unashamed carbon copy of the Xbox 360 Achievement system, the first of many steps Sony will have to make in order to catch up with Microsoft’s dominant online service.

The following first-party titles will support trophies - existing games will prompt you to download a patch next time you connect, and future games will presumably work out of the box:

• MotorStorm Pacific Rift
• NBA 09
• PAIN
• PixelJunk Eden
• Resistance 2
• SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
• Warhawk
