Independent Bulgarian devs Masthead Studios have announced their debut MMO Earthrise. The sci-fi title is built on Masthead’s proprietary game engine and platform, and judging by the screenshots and artwork on their website, is going to be a polished product indeed.

As far as the sci-fi theme goes, it appears to have checked all the right boxes: a post-apocalyptic setting, corporate-driven totalitarian governments seeking to create a utopia and some mention of DNA and clones.

Earthrise’s creators promise that “This will change the way we play sci-fi MMO’s”. Quite possibly they’re referring to the high degree of control bestowed upon the player, allowing themselves to manipulate economies and technology, essentially shaping the society within which they play. While such a claim is enough to get us all interested, we will have to wait till 2009 to see if it is accurate.
