Lost Planet PC and Xbox 360 updates

Lost Planet

Capcom have announced a DirectX 10 update for Lost Planet PC, along with a Map Pack including four new maps. The new maps will also be downloadable for free on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Details on the DX 10 enhancements and new maps after the jump.

The DX 10 enhancements for the PC version will take greater advantage of DX 10 capabilities by utilizing Geometry Shader to improve overall visual quality through better depth of field effects, improved motion blur and fur shading. A much needed (albeit basic) chat system will be added for online PC play, which will include four default message options that can be used to communicate with others in the lobby, in-game and result screen.

The PC Map Pack #2 will include these following maps:

  • Battleground - An abandoned town scattered with rubble from ruined buildings, featuring indoor/outdoor areas with multi-level vantage points
  • Lost Technology - A throw-back to the good ol’ days of pixelated 8-bit gaming
  • Ruins - ancient temples set amidst a lush jungle
  • Ice Drop - frigid glacier with lots of peaks, nooks and crannies.

Both DX 10 patch and Map Pack #2 will be released as free downloads on August 16th.

For Xbox 360 players, the “Lost Technology,” “Ruins,” and “Ice Drop” maps from the PC Map Pack #2 are now available in Map Pack #3 in the Xbox 360 version. Map Pack #3 is currently selling for 400 Microsoft points, but if you wait until August 16th it will be available as a free download. A new patch addressing connectivity for players of the Xbox 360 version will be available in the next few weeks.
