Enemy Territory Quake Wars 1.2 Update

You’ll be glad to know that the first update for ETQW is in the final stages of testing. And yes, full VoIP support will soon be upon us. Aside from this much needed addition, id software have taken heed to the comments/complaints on their community forums and implemented subtle improvements to the game balance: Some weapons have undergone changes to make them fairer, including tweaks in damage fall-off, weapon spread, firing rates, and accuracy.

Experience points have also been improved, with increases in certain classes such as Medic and Technician when reviving and dropping health packs. Overall level four rewards are easier to achieve across all categories in the course of a campaign.

For those of us who found it frustrating how fireteams would be disbanded at the end of every round, here is our fix – once you create a fireteam on a server, it wont disappear unless you tell it to or switch teams. There’s also the introduction of Stopwatch mode – an added piece of logic code that can better deal with ties. If neither team wins the map outright, the team that progressed further through the objectives gets the win.

Bots have also received multiple improvements; being better adapting to and dealing with enemy snipers/campers, being much more focussed on obeying player commands, improved attacking of enemy Anti-Vehicle Turrets, and better usage of the Oppressor’s Tactical Shield as cover while in combat.

Along with a bunch of other minor, miscellaneous, yet useful changes we’ll also be getting a few improvements to the user interface and server browser. For a full run-down of these, check out the ETQW Development Blog
