PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.20 adding BD-LIVE later this month

Sony today announced the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 - version 2.20. Planned for release later this month, the update adds Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (or BD-LIVE) support, enhanced PSP integration, and a host of other features. BD-LIVE format movies will arrive in April, and allow studios to add features to Blu-ray movies such as ringtones to send to your mobile phone, and network-enabled games.
To use Blu-ray Profile 2.0, you’ll need an Internet connection and at least 1GB of free space on your PS3. If you don’t have either, you can still enjoy the other features added with Firmware 2.20:
- “Resume Play” can start playing a Blu-ray or DVD at the point it was stopped even if the disc had been removed.
- A PSP can be used as a remote control for music playing on the PS3.
- The Internet browser will be enhanced, allowing embedded videos to stream and improving page render times.
- DivX and WMV files larger than 2GB will be playable.
- “Mosquito Noise Reduction” will be added to the AV options.
