A new version of the OpenGL 3D graphics API was officially unveiled at Siggraph in San Diego earlier this week. Originally codenamed ‘Open GL Longs Peak’, OpenGL 3 promises a great increase in efficiency, while providing a solid, consistent and well thought out basis for the future.

The specifications will be finalized at the next meeting of the Architecture Review Board at the end of the month. The official public specification is expected to arrive at the end of September, once the 30-day approval from the overseeing Khronos Group has passed.
