The Bourne Conspiracy: Not a movie game

The development of movie-licensed games has always been a path fraught with difficulty, with a mere few titles surviving the gotta-be-out-in-time-for-the-movie-release mentality. Which is probably why High Moon Studios have played it safe with The Bourne Conspiracy, distancing the game somewhat from its movie predecessors.

For a start, Jason Bourne does not look like Matt Damon in the game. And while some of the plot is borrowed from The Bourne Identity, new material will be added, as approved by creator Robert Ludlum.

In keeping with the theme of the movies, stealth and using the environment will be more important than using gadgets. Also adapted from the films is Director Paul Greengrass’ shaky camera technique.

These are all part of High Moon’s goal to build a franchise out of The Bourne Conspiracy, with a sequel already being planned. Aside from combining fresh new ideas with already successful ones, the game will not suffer the pitfalls of being rushed for a co-release with a movie.

Such levelheaded plans are bound to pay off, come Summer 2008.
