GC ‘07 - Guitar Hero III hands-on impressions

I got my hands on Guitar Hero III at GC, and while the tracks on offer in the demonstration build were particularly underwhelming, the appearance of Pearl Jam meant I could give it a decent run for its money.

Given Neversoft have had to completely recreate the game without any of the original source code, and have no experience with making music games, they’ve done a fantastic job of recreating the feel of the Guitar Hero most of us know, and love.
Loading time is insanely fast, especially compared to Guitar Hero II. Whether this is due to an installation process or just Neversoft’s mad skills, I have no idea - as by the time I got to Activision, the Guitar Hero team had left the show. Regardless, I have left the loading time at the start of the video to illustrate just how snappy it was.
The wireless guitars are very sexy. The start and back buttons have been moved and recessed into the body to minimize accidental operation, and while the fret buttons have been changed in appearance, it played just like the Xbox 360 Gibson X-plorer I’ve spent more than enough time with over the last few months.
A Guitar Hero III demo will appear in the full version of Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, so if you’re up for an early taste, you now know where to go.
