Now currently in development, Tiberium is a “tactical first-person shooter” set in the Command and Conquer universe. Years after the Third Tiberium war, a mysterious and dormant alien tower which looms over civilization will serve as the centerpiece for the unfolding of the rich storyline which is Tiberium. You will play as Battle Commander Ricardo Vega, weilding an arsenal of familiar C&C weapons, such as a transforming personal weapon system, multi-launch homing missiles, capital ship bombardments and tactical ion cannon strikes. Multiple infantry, armor, and air squads will all be under your control as the fight escalates. But the real emphasis will be on squad based combat, with intelligent strategy taking precedence over firepower.

With the Command & Conquer franchise defining RTS as we know it today, this new baby to the series has some big shoes to fill. But Chris Plummer, executive producer at EA Los Angeles, promises that we shall not be disappointed:

We’ve put a lot of effort into evolving the tactical shooter experience by taking core gameplay compulsions like commanding, choice and dominating your enemies and delivering them in first-person. Some of the weapons and mechanics are truly innovative for a first-person game. We’re very proud to be part of a project that has the potential to really make a mark on the canon of sci-fi fantasy fiction.

EA have planned Tiberium’s release for the 2nd Quarter of 2008 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
