Bionic Commando will not feature lock-on swinging

Monday, January 14th, 2008

This new clip from Capcom explains Bionic Commando’s swinging action. If you were thinking it would simply be an automatic lock-on system like the Spider-Man games then think again – Bionic Commando is going to require some skill. I’m sure the game will get intuitive once you get the hang of it, but it’s possible the beginning difficulty will deter a few gamers.

Resistance 2 to feature 8 player co-op and 60 player multiplayer

Resistance 2 to feature 8 player co-op and 60 player multiplayer

A whole swag of Resistance 2 news has hit the net, all of it being very exciting if it lives up to its promises. The game will feature two campaigns, one for single player and the other for co-op play. It is unclear at this stage if they will very different or if it will simply mean a few more enemies and minor changes to make the multiplayer experience more natural. Co-op mode brings some exciting firsts in game mechanics by allowing 2 player split screen for local play and a staggering 8 player co-op for online play. We aren’t sure if the game will allow for a 4 system with 2 players on each mode of play but expect more news on the nitty gritty shortly.

On the multiplayer front the game will support up to a massive 60 players per game. This huge player capacity isn’t limited to simple deathmatch either, with some multiplayer modes dividing participants into 4- to 8-player squads each with their own virtual lobby. The squads will receive individual objectives to give a real sense of purpose to every player involved. Currently there are 3 basic classes: heavy weaponry, special ops and medic.

Developer Insomniac have also promised a stat tracking database on myresistance.net and faster matchmaking than any game of the past year.

Playstation 3 production costs halved

Playstation 3 production costs halved

Sony have managed to bring the cost of PS3 production from US$800 to US$400 through the use of smaller chips and removal of unneeded hardware. Sony aren’t dancing with joy yet, as Nikko Citigroup analyst Kota Ezawa predicts that they will still lose $1.4 billion this year and won’t become profitable until 2009.

So what does this mean for consumers? Well nothing yet - there are no talks of a future price drop at this stage.

EA give away free games to those with Rock Band controller issues

EA have gone above and beyond the call of duty by offering those with defective Rock Band controllers a free game with their fix. The once unfortunate sods now get to choose the game of their liking from 14 EA titles. And they aren’t the crap you find at the bottom of the bargain bin either, but recent titles like Skate, The Simpsons Game and even another copy of Rock Band (no controllers though).

Those wanting to get in on the generosity will have to head over to this site by January 11th. Check after the jump for a full list of games.

North American Playstation Network cards due early ‘08

Sony have confirmed that Playstation Network cards will be available in North America early next year. The cards will act the same as those for the Wii and Xbox 360, except they will do away with the sometimes confusing points system and come in monetary values. Eric Lempel, director of PSN operations pointed out the function of the cards:

“The cards will be redeemable via the PlayStation Store for PC, and on the PlayStation 3 to supply the wallet with funds to spend on games, add-ons, and other paid content.”

Thanks to some photos snapped last week we know that there will be a $20 card, and we suspect a $40 card to coincide with Japan’s JPY 5,000 card.

Update on Saint’s Row 2

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

saints_row_2_news_update_features.jpg
With the sequel to Saint’s Row slated for a release soon after GTA IV, you’d think THQ Games would be a little nervous. Perhaps it is this anxiety that has prompted them to throw in a few key features to give them a little edge in the territory that is well and truly owned by Rockstar. Taken together, these features indeed provide hope for Saints Row 2 to provide a refreshing alternative world to Liberty City.

LittleBigPlanet and Kill Zone 2 not out till late 2008

According to “semi official” Playstation 3 blog Three Speech, we won’t be seeing Killzone 2 or LittleBigPlanet any time soon. The source says that both games won’t be released until September or October next year.

We expected such a wait for Killzone 2 but not for LittleBigPlanet - it’s demo was supposed to be released this year and the game early next year.
