Dementium: The Ward goes gold, new gameplay videos

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Renegade Kid has treated us all to some extra videos of their very scary DS game, Dementium: The Ward. With the game being one of the few survival horror games to be released on a hand-held device, the video shows that it packs a big atmosphere into the the small frame of the DS.

Of course with Halloween coming up Renegade Kid would be foolish to miss the opportunity to release the game then. Foolish they are not, for the game has been finished and cartridges are being manufactured as you read.

Japanese airlines ban playing PSP, DS on planes

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Japanese airliners have banned all gaming systems with Wi-Fi capabilities from being played on board. The move comes after Japan’s transport ministry decided “electromagnetic waves emitted by the consoles have the ability to interfere with aircraft navigation systems and other devices.”

What I find interesting is that while other wireless devices like mice and headphones have also been banned, laptops seem to have avoided the ban. Any guesses why?

Halo DS was under development, cancelled

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

IGN have released a video and screenshots of the oft-rumored Halo game for the Nintendo DS. While details are scarce, apparently the game was being produced by a “major, triple-A publisher” before being scrapped.

With Halo and the DS each being money printers in their own right, I can’t help but wonder why this project was canceled - especially given how far into development it looks to be.

According to VG Chartz, it has taken Nintendo less than three years to sell their 50 millionth DS handheld. While the redesigned PSP Slim has boosted sales significantly in Japan, Sony sure has an awful lot of catching up to do, with the PSP still yet to crack the 25 million mark.

DS Scrabble: Not as gay-friendly as we thought

Belfast resident Zachary McAdam was shocked and appalled while enjoying a quiet game of DS Scrabble with his seven year old daughter yesterday. After struggling to figure out what word he could make with his letters, he hit the “give up” option to get a solution: Lesbo.

While Irish Gay Rights spokespeople have kicked up in a stink over why the word was included in the game’s dictionary, Ubisoft have made an official apology while trying to keep a straight face on the matter.

Jam Sessions Performance Bundle defines fashionably late

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

jam-sessions-performance-bundle.jpg

With Jam Sessions for the Nintendo DS set for release on the 11th of September, Ubisoft have announced the Jam Sessions Performance Bundle, which includes a First Act mini-amplifier…but please, do your neighbors/parents/house-mates a favor and learn to play half-decently before you plug it in.

Strangely enough, the bundle won’t hit stores until the 1st of November - but don’t fret. The late bundle costs US $70, with the standalone game a mere $30 - which means you can spend the $40 difference on a Marshall mini-amplifier (or half that on a no name brand if that’s your style) and have it all on the 11th - makes sense unless you’re really into the box art.

Jessica Alba: Nintendo fangirl

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Wii Fanboy have recognized that today is particularly slow in terms of news, and dug out an interview Yahoo! Games did with the gorgeous Jessica Alba back in June. Turns out Jessica is a raving Nintendo fangirl - in between takes on the Fantastic Four set she could be found locked into her Nintendo DS, trying to better her (admittedly abysmal) Brain Age of 82. She even bought a Nintendo DS each for the entire cast once they had wrapped up filming duties.
