Dragon Quest Wars

This week we got a few interesting choices. Any fan of the Square Enix series Dragon Quest has a quick distraction with Dragon Quest Wars for the DSi.

Personally, I’m the most excited with Arkanoid Plus! which continues the wonderful paddle/ball/brick classic. There’s been a lot of changes since the original and I can’t wait to try the boss battles.

For the Virtual Console, I’m wary suggesting Altered Beast because I know it’s part of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection . But if you don’t have a PS3 or an XBox360 and desperately want to play this game, it’s now available for you. I find the game to be insanely hard, but I try it out whenever I’m bored because it’s part of the collection.

Top 25 Amazon Sales - 4/16/09

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

We’re going to take a look at the list of top video game sales from Amazon. This list doesn’t count the systems, accessories, or downloadables. I always found it weird that Amazon had a section of “Top Video Games” and they count accessories and the like. I’ve compiled the top 25 games so you don’t have to. There’s some analysis after the jump.

1.Wii Fit - Wii

2.Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel - Wii

3.Pokemon Platinum - DS

4.Wii Sports Resort (Pre-Order) - Wii

5.Wii Play with Wii Remote - Wii

6.My Fitness Coach - Wii

7.Professor Layton and the Curious Village - DS

8.Killzone 2 - PS3

9.Mario Kart DS - DS

10.Shaun White Snowboarding - Wii

Nintendo Downloads 4/13/09

Monday, April 13th, 2009

After Nintendo’s big week of DSi Downloads the pickings look a little slim. We have one Virtual Console, one WiiWare, and two DSi downloads. I’m very wary about both DSi downloads. The Master of Illusion series is questionable in my book. It’s really not a game, so throwing money on it just doesn’t seem like the answer.

Mixed Messages seems like a fun game, but only if you have several friends on hand. It’s a technologically advanced version of the childhood favorite game Telephone. One person writes a sentence, one person draws the sentence in picture form, and then the third person has to interpret the picture as a sentence.

Nintendo Downloads 4/6/09

Monday, April 6th, 2009

To celebrate the release of the new Nintendo DSi most of the available downloads this week are part of Nintendo’s new DSiWare. Granted, everyone should probably download the Nintendo DSi Browser since it is 0 points. It seems as though all of the games are an extension of a previous game, or just light examples of what the DSi could do. I think that the best choice out of all the products has to be WarioWare Snapped! The game is always short spurts of fun, no matter which Nintendo system it is on.

Looking at the Wii’s side, we have EQUILBRIO in the WiiWare and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons on the Virtual Console. EQUILBRIO is yet another product that can use the Balance Board, which is great for anybody who thought that the Balance Board wouldn’t get much love. I’m interested in the Uncharted Waters: New Horizons because there were some positive reviews on GameFAQs. Personally, I’ve never heard of the game and I appreciate the fact that the Virtual Console puts these rare games.

Atlus strikes again: Izuna 2 hitting DS this July

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Atlus USA, famous for publishing obscure Japanese games that probably only appeal to tiny niche markets, recently updated their homepage to include Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns, sequel to last year’s roguelike Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja.

Atlus always shines, in my eyes. They’ve brought some great titles into my native tongue that I probably would have never gotten my hands on otherwise, and they’ll always have my respect for that. And you’ve got to give them a tip of the hat on this one: modern roguelikes are hard enough to market, and this videogame is the sequel to a Japanese roguelike that stars a very pink female ninja. Good show, Atlus. I’m sure you’ve made, like, a dozen people very happy.
