Coming soon: your very own World of Warcraft character figurine

your very own World of Warcraft character figurine

It was bound to happen…and frankly we are surprised it took so long. Nonetheless, very soon you will be able to order a figurine of your World of Warcraft character. The idea comes from one of the Xbox’s founding fathers, Ed Fries, after he saw the Spore figure system.

The company is called FigurePrints and you can already demo the system. Having a little figure to demonstrate how much of your life you’ve wasted won’t come cheap though; as one will set you back US$100. Even at that price we are sure they will have trouble keeping up with demands.

1,000 boxes of Rock Band hijacked

Friday, December 14th, 2007

rock_band_hijack_violence_crime.jpg
If there’s one thing that garners street cred, its being associated with violent crime, especially of the black market variety. Last weekend a truck carrying over 1,000 boxes of the now-truly-badass game Rock Band was hijacked, its driver held up at gunpoint and kidnapped for over an hour. Crazed videogame kids or professional criminals? The truck was apparently unmarked and the cargo picked up late Saturday night, giving the Fuzz reason to believe that it was an inside job.

Nintendo responds to Greenpeace report

Nintendo have issued a statement in response to the score of zero it received from Greenpeace’s “Guide to Greener Electronics.” Nintendo believe the low score is completely unwarranted, citing its “Green Procurement Standards” and compliance with worldwide regulations. Surprisingly they do not mention their Recycling program or the Wii’s low power consumption in their rebuttal. Check after the jump for Nintendo’s statement.

Colorado Church Shooter killed because of lack of games

Colorado Church Shooter killed because of lack of games

When the media went to see if they could uncover any game related motive in the Colorado Church Shootings they came to a shocking discovery. The shooter, Matthew Murray, was actually not allowed to play games during his youth. This was obviously the media’s first taste of “reverse video game frenzies”, as the Denver Post reports:

On another website, a poster named nghtmrchld26, believed by police to be Murray, said he rebelled against an upbringing that forbade him from buying rock music, video games and popular DVDs.

Those damn video games, they cause you to be a menace to society even when you aren’t playing them!

The European Commission offers developers tax break

The European Commission offers developers tax break
The European Commission has awarded the same tax breaks the film industry receives to game developers. The move came after the French governments lobbied for the changes. Developers whose games meet the criteria of “quality, originality and contribution to cultural diversity” are eligible to receive a 20% tax break. Current estimates of this year’s games predict that about half of them would be eligible to receive the break.

It goes without saying that this move represents another gradual step towards games being recognized as an artistic medium.

Sometimes I wish I was a child again, so I could get birthday presents like this lucky kid did. Don’t get me wrong, I’d order it in a flash if it was on eBay, though.

Kid smokes pot, gets denied Guitar Hero III

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

kid_smokes_pot_loses_guitar_hero.JPG

After walking in on his fifteen year old son smoking marijuana with his buddies, eBay seller k_lid did the typical flipping out, yelling and slapping upside the head an angry father would do. But his actions turned from reactionary to downright cold when he hatched an elaborate plan for punishment - removing his copy of Guitar Hero III:” Legends of Rock from under the Christmas tree and putting it up for sale on eBay. k_lid defends his cruel and unusual punishment on his seller page, but my heart goes out to the poor stoner kid whose humble aspirations were to get high and rock out.

New AIBO PS to be controled with your PSP or PS3

A recent article in Stuff magazine has indicated a revival of the Sony AIBO to be called the Sony AIBO PS. Before you get mad and throw stuff at us, this does have a little to do with gaming:  The new AIBO will have a camera in its head that will be viewable on your PS3 and PSP via WiFi. But the best part is you will be able to control your robo-doggie with your PSP or PS3. Once it gets a price tag it will probably cost an arm and a leg, but think of all the money you’d save on real dog food.
