GTA IV gets MA 15+ rating in Australia

Friday, December 14th, 2007

gta_iv_receives_australian_rating.jpg
Australian gamers can breathe a sigh of relief as GTA IV has been given an MA 15+ rating, avoiding a repeat performance of the fiasco that was San Andreas. It’s the most restrictive rating in Australia, as no R18 code exists in the region. The corollary of this most pleasing news is that the game’s content is probably complete.

According to EGM’s Quartermann, Bizarre Creation’s new owner Activision may have secured a deal to make a James Bond title. It is rumored that it will contain “a load of driving elements”, hardly surprising as these are the same guys which brought us Project Gotham Racing. With a new Bond movie coming to cinema screens in 2008, be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for further updates on this story.

Rock Band gets European release date?

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

RewiredMind have reportedly spoken to an EA insider who confirmed that Rock Band will be released in the UK and Europe for the PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 on March 6, 2008. No details regarding the price, or an Australian release date were mentioned.

If there’s truth to the rumour, importing the game will suddenly look a whole lot more appealing for PAL PS3 owners - with the standalone PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band readily available for dirt-cheap on eBay, and the game’s new-found compatibility with PS3 Guitar Hero III Les Paul controllers meaning anyone with any old USB microphone and a Les Paul can play two-thirds of the game for now and pick up the drum kit once they are available separately. I’d put money on it costing less than the PAL bundle all up, too.

Ageia to release PhysX mod kits for UT3

Ageia have announced plans to release a mod kit designed around its PhysX GPU, which will give modders “everything they need to easily add PhysX-powered content into the UT3 universe.” After Mark Rein announced earlier this year that UT3 mods will be able to slide across all platforms, this offering from Ageia is sure to encourage a healthy amount of user-created content for the game. Available in December, the kit will include additional tools, guides, tutorials and documentation and assets and examples to complement the game’s existing mod tools.

Rock Band to allow user created content?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Rock Band may alow user created content

Just yesterday we posted news on the particularly indie selection of bonus tracks that will accompany Rock Band, and it seems that Harmonix are looking to take it to the next level. Harmonix CEO, Alex Rigopulos revealed in a recent interview that they might allow users to create their own content:

“I think that one direction that the video game industry is headed in general is actually putting the power into the hands of the masses and letting the audience author the music. One possibility that we’re actually considering is releasing our own authoring tools out freely into the world, such that if you’re a band and you and your three friends are in your bedroom or garage making music, and no major label will even give you the time of day but you believe in your music, you can actually produce a game level yourself and send it to us for publishing on the game servers or distributing to your friends.”

Some of you might remember the promised feature of Spore that allows you to buy a figurine of your creature - and Harmonix have taken the idea and run with it. Not only are they planning to provide posed figurines of your avatar, but also T-shirts with your band logo on them, album art, bumper stickers and other merch. You will be able to access your profile and order merch though RockBand.com.

This game is looking to be immense and just keeps getting better.

Ghostbusters game in the works

Ghostbusters game in the works

Who are you going to call? That is, who are you going to call when you wet yourself upon reading that there is a Ghostbusters game in the works? Game Informer broke the story and are staying tight lipped until their December issue is out. What we do know is that Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are on board to reprise their roles, and that Aykroyd and Ramis are writing the script.

The game is being made for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC. I’m pretty sure gripping the Wiimote and yelling “don’t cross the streams” will never get old.
